This savage critique of capitalism, filmed entirely in and around New York between October 1967 and June 1968, records the aftermath of bloody and violent clashed between civil rights protests and the forces of ‘democracy’. Considered by Whitehead to be his most important film, it is an extremely personal statement on violence, revolution and the racial turbulence within late ‘60s America.
