Probably no other filmmaker has exercised such influence with so few films: the documentary A propos de Nice, a short Turis, the drama Zéro de Conduite (banned almost immediately) and the full-length feature L'Atalante (cut by the producers). Yet when Vigo's films of the 1930s re-appeared in the 1950s they impressed and influenced a new generation of critics and filmmakers.

Vigo suffered from ill health and died aged only 29, he had to battle to raise resources and funds. Yet his three films are distinctive in their subject matter and style, and they achieve a unique lyricism. The introduction will discuss the context of Vigo's films, before a screening of his restored masterpiece, L'Atalante.

Includes refreshments and screening of L'Atalante (PG).
