DMR – a new way of seeing blockbuster films

Using IMAX DMR Technology, 35mm films are digitally re-mastered into the giant IMAX format. With wraparound sound and stunning visual clarity, the film is 10 times larger than its original format – and is an experience not to be missed.

IMAX facts

  • The IMAX cinema was opened in 1983 (when the Museum was called the National Museum Of Photography, Film & Television) and was the first ever IMAX cinema in Europe.

  • The screen at the Museum is 48' (14.63m) high x 65' (19.81m) wide.

  • The IMAX screen was lowered into the auditorium through the roof as there was no other way to install it.

  • Since 1983 over 5,000,000 tickets have been sold.

  • The IMAX screen is perforated with thousands of tiny holes to allow the crystal clear sound to flow through freely.
