In recognition of the importance of developing new talent, the winner of the Best Film by a Young Animator Award was announced at this special screening. Selected from a record number of entries, these shortlisted films were screened and the winner presented with their BAF Award.

The BAF 2012 Jury panel who considered this selection were Jez Stewart, Jo Lawrence and Pavel Horàček.
