Red Dog (PG)
Recently voted one of Australia's top ten films of all time, the beguilingly nostalgic Red Dog is based on Louis de Bernières' (Captain Corelli's Mandolin) novella based on the true story of a Kelpie sheep dog who travelled round a part of Western Australia in the 1970s, ending up in a mining town called Dampier; where locals became so fond of him – their very own symbol of Aussie endurance and ingenuity – that they built a statue of him.
Starring Josh Lucas (American Psycho), Rachael Taylor and one very nice dog, this disarming film tells the old-fashioned story of an extraordinary community of grafters, and the dog who became their much-loved mascot; set against the phenomenal beauty of the Australian outback.
