The Artist (PG)
It's 1927, and charismatic star George Valentin is at the peak of popularity. However, sound film is just around the corner, and – out with the old - many silent greats are soon to find themselves out of work.
Meanwhile, fresh faced and kind-hearted young starlet Peppy Miller is definitely on the up. Peppy and George's paths cross as she begins her career in film. Making the most of the new world of sound, Peppy's star begins to outshine George's, yet a flicker of romance suggests they might not remain too far apart. Classical pleasures abound in this joyful salute to silent cinema.
Not only is The Artist a wonderful film in its own right, it also revives so much artistry often considered lost.
