The National Media Museum is part of a wider group known as NMSI (National Museum of Science and Industry) which also includes the Science Museum and the National Railway Museum. NMSI is independent of government. It is a non-departmental public body run by a Board of Trustees.
NMSI receives most of its operating funding from the Government through the Department of Culture, Media and Sport. A condition of this grant is that entry to the Museum must be free although the Museum does charge for additional activities including its film programme and some other events.
The Museum also raises money through some commercial activities including a shop and café and through sponsorship. New developments at the Museum including new galleries are financed through a combination of capital money from Government, private sponsorship and other public sector sources like the National Lottery.
The National Media Museum is run by a Strategic Leadership Team led by the Director, Colin Philpott. Other members of the team are -
