Volunteering at the Museum is a great opportunity for you to gain skills and experience, meet new people and fuel your passion for film, photography, television and new media.
Voluntary activities are mutually beneficial – we need you to help us carry out important and necessary tasks, give our visitors an entertaining and engaging experience, and improve access to the National Collections in our care.

Ongoing Volunteer Projects
Our volunteers are currently involved in two Collection-specific projects, and we employ a team of volunteers to assist with two of our annual film festivals.
Television Commercials Project
We have a small team of dedicated volunteers who sort and list our collection of television commercials, supervised by the Assistant Curator of Television. The Television Commercials Project is run at our offsite storage facility.
Insight Library Project
In Insight: Collections & Research Centre, our longest running Collection volunteers group continues with the ongoing task of maintaining our reference library, so that Museum staff and researchers can access our extensive collection of media related books and journals.
Film Festival Volunteers
Bradford Animation Festival and Bradford International Film Festival have been running since 1993 and 1994 respectively, and are still going strong. We rely on the support of volunteers to assist with the running of our festivals, both inside the Museum building and at additional venues across Bradford.
Film festival volunteer responsibilities include ushering, greeting and looking after guests and juries, answering enquiries, microphone-running and more – it can get pretty hectic so being able to use your initiative is crucial. Ideally, we want to hear from people who have a passion for film and animation, and want to share their enthusiasm with others. Volunteering at our film festivals is hard work indeed, but a lot of fun - you'll make great friends and get a fair few benefits – our way of saying 'thanks!'
Volunteer Film Facilitator
Our senior citizens film group meet every Thursday morning after the film for an informal discussion led by the Volunteer Film Facilitator. They help us deliver a great cinema experience.
