Eileen's Mother
Eileen
used to go on holiday to Norfolk when she was a child, to see her
family. This is a picture of her mother, taken in 1932 whilst they
were there. Her cousin Connie is on the horse. I was at school in
Bradford at that time. My school was called St. Bede's. I got a
scholarship to go to the Grammar School, but mum wanted me to go
to a Catholic school. I did quite well and could have gone on to
university, but I decided to leave school when I was 16 and get
a job. I got a job in a mill. They used to say that the only reason
you went to St. Bede's was so that you wouldn't have to go and work
in a mill, but that's what I did.
