Copper Horses by Chris Harrison

A reflection on identity, class, British industry and the photographer’s relationship with his father.

Gallery

When Chris Harrison was a boy, he believed his dad was a deep-sea diver who had adventures every day. In reality his dad worked in a factory as a precision engineer. As Chris grew older, he came to understand that, far from being an adventurer, his father worked hard to provide for his family in a difficult, skilled and often underappreciated job.

This exhibition was the result of Chris thinking about his relationship with his dad and how it has changed over the years. He wanted to evoke ‘a feeling of pride in the skill and creativity of ordinary people and in what they do for a living’.
