From the 1960s onwards, Britain's seaside resorts went into decline as people were attracted by cheap foreign package holidays. Fewer holidaymakers, combined with almost universal camera ownership, meant hard times for the beach photographer. Despite innovations, such as colour photographs, their days were numbered. Soon, they became part of seaside history.
