The Museum receives Government funding through the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS). A condition of this grant is that entry to the Museum must be free, and while it finances our core daily operations, we rely on additional income to fund the Museum's programme of events and any new developments.
We raise additional income in two ways:
- Through commercial activity such as the shop, café, film ticket sales, our membership scheme, and corporate hire.
- New developments are funded by a combination of corporate sponsorship, trusts and foundations, Government grants, and public sector sources like the National Lottery.
Donations from our visitors and supporters will become increasingly important as we attempt to address the gap between the funding we currently receive, and our ambition to become the best museum in the world for inspiring people to engage with, create, and learn about media.

The Museum is run by the Senior Management Team which is guided by the Advisory Board chaired by Lord (Michael) Grade of Yarmouth CBE.
Senior Management Team
The Museum is run by a Senior Management Team who are responsible for the Museum's overall strategy, planning and delivering its programme of activities, developing and caring for the Collection, and a range of other matters.
The Senior Management Team is guided by an Advisory Board which advises on the Museum's strategy, its programme, its Collection, and helps with promoting the Museum and fundraising.
