Jenny Agutter:
A Charmed Career

Jenny Agutter: A Charmed Career
Jenny Agutter
Jenny Agutter

Jenny Agutter has lived many lives, and all of them on the movie screen. One of the most talented child actresses British cinema has ever produced, she has transformed on screen over more than 40 years from child to teen to ingénue to sex symbol to leading lady and, now, distinguished character actress.

Asked to consider her remarkable five decades in film, Jenny Agutter said: "I have been enormously lucky with who I've worked with. It's been a charmed career, really."

We are delighted to welcome her to BFF2005.

More about Jenny Agutter

Born: December 20th, 1952, Taunton, Somerset, England

Jenny Agutter has always been a player of characters – a jobbing actress whose star rose steadily until marriage and motherhood prompted a voluntary change of role. Between her film debut in East of Sudan in 1964 and her return from Hollywood exile in 1990 she was one of the busiest actors on both sides of the Atlantic.

Hers has been an awfully big cinema adventure. There have been period romps, black comedies and horror thrillers, wartime dramas, romantic tearjerkers and the odd epic along the way. In the theatre she worked with John Gielgud and Peter Hall at the National and, during the early 1980s, with the Royal Shakespeare Company. And on television she has cropped up in everything from Magnum PI and The Equalizer to Heartbeat and Red Dwarf. In 2000 she played her most famous character’s mother in another adaptation of The Railway Children, and is now planning a move into production with a film biopic of the book’s author, Edith Nesbit.
