British screen legend Virginia McKenna will receive the annual Lifetime Achievement Award at the 15th Bradford International Film Festival this month.
Best-known for playing conservationist Joy Adamson in the 1960s classic Born Free, Virginia made her mark in a string of critically acclaimed films including Carve Her Name with Pride, the extraordinary real-life story of WWII agent Violette Szabo. A selection of her films will play throughout the Festival.
In 2009 BIFF will also welcome actor, writer and director Terry Jones. As well as being one-sixth of the Monty Python team Terry is acclaimed as a filmmaker in his own right.
We are also joined by acclaimed documentary maker Peter Whitehead, who is the recipient of this year's BIFF Fellowship and we are delighted to present a centenary tribute to Yorkshire-born actor James Mason.
Our 15th Festival continues many of the established themes that have made Bradford a unique destination for film aficionados, from the Widescreen Weekend to our third selection of genuine indie films in Uncharted States of America.
Come and join us. Experience film from Mexico, Latvia, Japan, France, Australia, Great Britain, Canada, The Netherlands and the United States.
With more than 200 screenings earmarked for the Festival fortnight, you really won't want to be anywhere else.
