Three stories about government in Africa: Mugabe and the White African is a searing documentary on the impact of Mugabe’s Land Reform policy on individuals; With Général Idi Amin Dada: Autoportrait, French director Barbet Schroeder gives Amin enough rope to hang himself. Meanwhile Xala is a satire by the great Senegalese filmmaker Ousmane Sembene, a pioneer of African cinema. Though only a snapshot, these three films offer a jump-off point to explore the past and present of three African states.
BAFTA and the National Media Museum are delighted to bring you a post-screening discussion with the BAFTA-nominated producers of Mugabe and the White African David Pearson and Elizabeth Morgan Hemlock on Thursday 15 April.
