Erik Kessels
Erik Kessels works with collections of amateur and family photographs, and abandoned and overlooked studio photography. Assembling and presenting these in new archives, his works cast an incisive and comic eye over our shared customs and habits.
The pictures from In Almost Every Picture #5 were given to Kessels by his German friend and collaborator Marion Blomeyer. The family Dalmation forms the link in each photograph, but nothing else – other than the photographs' German origin – is known. The dog is clearly integral to this family's life, taking centre stage 'in almost every picture'.
