The Rose Gardens (display : II) (I), 2007, Sarah Jones, Lambda print, 122 x 152cm, Courtesy of Maureen Paley, London and Anton Kern Gallery, New York
Throughout her recent career, Sarah Jones has been working on related bodies of work that interweave allusions to the figurative elements of portraiture and still life. Apparently distinct, these complex and beguiling images are linked by many themes, including the use of composition and gesture, attention to lighting and colour, and our relationship to place.
During her tenure as Fellow, she has produced a body of photographs that develop and extend her ongoing concerns. This exhibition presents a selectionof works from 2002 onwards, alongside these new photograhs.
Sarah Jones was born in London in 1959, where she continues to live and work. A graduate of the fine art course at Goldsmith’s College, London, her work has been widely exhibited internationally. She is a tutor at the Royal College of Art and holds a research position at Derby University. She is the 13th Bradford Fellow of Photography. The latest issue of the Museum's magazine Archive contains several articles discussing Sarah Jones' work. Available from the Museum shop priced £3.
