The Museum’s unique Hammer Horror collection make-up consists of concept drawings, continuity photographs, models and prosthetics produced by two pioneering make-up artists who created the special make-up effects for Hammer Films: Phil Leakey (1908-1992) and Roy Ashton (1909-1995). Among the objects are the false eyes Leakey created for Christopher Lee as the creature in The Curse of Frankenstein (1956) and a series of drawings made by Ashton in planning how he would age Ursula Andress 2,000 years in She (1965). The collection was acquired in 1998 with support from the Heritage Lottery Fund - the first time it had helped with the purchase of artefacts associated with the British film industry.
There will be talks and a mini tour of some aspects of the collection during the Fantastic Films Weekend. Tickets are free but availability is limited so please try to book in advance.
