'I'm not interested in day-to-day events and political topics. I'm much more interested in those small fateful things that are woven between people than I am in explosions and ideological bluster. With Rustling Landscapes I wanted to make a beautiful, intimate film.' - Janez Lapajne
Rustling Landscapes is that film. Indeed every word and nuance is critical as the inter-relationships are dissected, as the characters are stripped bare. While Luka and Katarina may fight when they face each, as each sees the other in the distance their love is clear and profound. Lapajne has created an intense chamber piece - only four key characters - and he conducts them like a string quartet. Katarina and Luka cannot connect verbally without arguing. Out on a photographic shoot Luka wanders off and Katarina meets Primoz. The triangle of the second movement is formed. The film plays out in 3 movements of intense relationships all exquisitely played in a film that demands the viewers attention.
